FAQs

What should I wear to sessions?

Please wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Enclosed shoes are required for safety, and long pants are recommended for Making Tracks bush walks. Don’t forget to bring a jumper in the cooler months!

Do I need any prior experience to join a program?

Not at all. Our programs are designed to be inclusive and accessible. No prior experience with therapy or nature-based activities is required.

What happens in bad weather?

Programs run in most weather conditions, with appropriate adjustments for safety and comfort. In cases of extreme weather (e.g. extreme high winds, storms, high fire danger), sessions may be rescheduled or moved to a more sheltered location.

Is Still Waters Ecotherapy a politically active organisation?

No, Still Waters Ecotherapy is not a politically active organisation and is not affiliated with any political or religious organisations. While we treat nature with ethical responsibility, our focus is entirely on therapeutic work, supporting emotional wellbeing, personal insight, and connection through nature-based practices. Our programs are inclusive, non-political, and grounded in trauma-informed principles.

Are your programs suitable for people with limited mobility?

Some programs can be adapted to suit different access needs. Please contact us before booking to discuss the best fit and make any necessary adjustments.

Can I attend alone, or do I need to come with a group?

Many of our programs are made up of community members from a variety of backgrounds who attend alone and make connections along the way. Please contact us if there is a particular program you would like to complete, so we can help you find the best fit.

Is this therapy?

Our programs are therapeutic and trauma-informed, but they are not a substitute for clinical mental health treatment. We work alongside other services and always prioritise participant safety and wellbeing.

Do facilitators have first aid certificates and WWCC?

Yes. All facilitators hold current first aid certification and a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC). Facilitators also carry a first aid kit to every session. These help ensure participant safety and uphold professional standards across all programs.

What should I bring to a session?

We recommend bringing a water bottle, weather-appropriate clothing (hat, raincoat, etc.), and any personal items that help you feel comfortable outdoors. We’ll let you know if anything specific is needed for your session.

Are your programs religious or spiritual?

Most of our programs are mainstream and designed for people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and life experiences. We offer one Christian-specific program—Abide—which integrates spiritual formation with trauma-informed ecotherapy. Additionally, our professional reflective practice programs can be adapted to suit faith-based groups upon request.

What is your policy on phones and electronic devices?

Participants are welcome to keep their phones with them during group sessions, but devices must be set to silent to maintain a calm and focused environment. For those who wish to fully disconnect, phones can be handed to facilitators for safekeeping during the session. Facilitators will always have a way to make or receive emergency contact if needed.
